BACKGROUND, Day 2, May 27, 2017 at 04:03:55
Within the first 24 hours of the Korean campaign, effective air superiority has been gained on the Korean peninsula. The Kim regime seems to be pushing reserve and front line KPA forces further south in a final push while American and ROK Army forces have counter-attacked to the north.
VFA-141 will shift its priority into a Close Air Support (CAS) role in southern Kangwon and North Hwanghae provinces.
OPORD
SITUATION - ENEMY
Enemy ground forces: various SAM/AAA battalions in Kangwon and North Hwanghae provinces in addition to support units and elements of the KPA.
Possible SAM threats: SA-2, SA-3, SA-4, SA-5, and MANPADS. AAA: KS-19, S-60.
Enemy air forces: possible scrambles or patrol flights from known active MiG-17, MiG-21, MiG-23, and MiG-29 squadrons.
Be advised that half of the DPRK MiG-29 fleet is thought to at least be grounded due to airbase strikes.
MISSION
It is the intent of the commander to destroy enemy ground forces in southern Kangwon and North Hwanghae provinces.
The first CAS strike will consist of a pre-planned target: two units of 2K6 Luna “FROG-5” surface-to-surface missile launchers and possible superior 9K52 Luna-M “FROG-7” missile launchers.
EXECUTION
Two flights of F/A-18Cs from VFA-141 will launch NLT 04:42:17 and ingress toward the target area. One two-ship flight will provide SEAD and air cover, focusing on SAM/AAA radars and providing top cover for any scrambled enemy flights. One two-ship flight will be responsible for providing CAS to friendly units in the AO.
